It travels 21 kilometers through the center of midtown Manhattan but in total, it stretches 53 kilometers passing through the Bronx and further north outside of the city. It's the oldest thoroughfare in New York City, dating back to the days of the Dutch settlement of New Amsterdam in the 17th century.
